WOFEX 2014, An Event Worth Visiting Yearly

When people behind WOFEX decide to make an activity, they sure do not pull blows for that matter.  This year, WOFEX is held in 2 major event places namely The World Trade Center and SMX – the whole ground floor and a hall at the 2nd level of the SMX.

If you truly wish to explore and see what they had, make sure that you either spend a day on each location.  The whole event, which happened last August 4 – 10, was filled with lectures, competition and exhibits. From savory to sweet dishes, from breads to pastries, from coffee art to pulled sugar, you name your interest and they have it then in form of competition.  Lectures on various topics regarding the Food and Beverage industry were set all throughout the days of the event.  From its business aspect to preparation, the people behind WOFEX truly planned this year well!

Unfortunately for me, I was only able to spend part of the day and wasn’t able to visit the WTC location even if shuttles were made available to all participants – visitors or media, they may be.

The ground floor of the whole SMX was split into 2 areas, namely the competition area and the goods exhibit area.  The competition area was still sub-divided based the type of competition and the display area of the finished items.  In the display area, you are then treated with various cake arts, bread arts, sugar and chocolate art.  Competitors for the different categories were from both local and international schools that cater to the creation of new people in the ever growing Food & Beverage industry, local businesses and individuals who simply wish to showcase what they got.  It was a busy week as wave after wave of competitors came forward to take their chance and advance into the next round or level of the category that they are in.  Supporters were ever present to cheer them on.

On the day that I was there, I was able to witness a latte art competition, food - meat preparation and even a cooking competition.  Don't ask me who the winners on each round were for I wasn't able to keep track of them all.  All I know was, knives were flying, milk and coffee were in the air (scent) and competitor's only has one thing in mind -"Let me finish it on time."Depending on the category or type of competition they may be, all has a time limit set.  An hour or two and it could be minutes (such is the case of the latte art competition).

The exhibitors were interesting. Let me hi-light some of the exhibitors that I like that time.

Charlie's Trading Company, was established in New Zealand in 1999 by three friends who started talking about juice. Charlie's line are juices, smoothies, quenchers, kid's juice drinks and water.  Phoenix line is a delicious range of natural products from Phoenix that has become the beverage choice for good restaurants and cafes. They have softdrinks, sparkling juice drinks, fruit juices and sparkling mineral water.

Presently, they are being distributed here in the Philippines by EQuilibrium Intertrade Corp. which is located in Muntinlupa City.  Should you want to reach them through their email address: eqcustcare@equilibrium.com.ph and/or their local number which is (632) 862-3041 to 44.

Why do I like them?  Their product is so good!  The organic soda taste like your regular soda, with all the fizz and flavor.  You are not short changed when you shift to this product.  Add to that the fact that it is organic, it cleanses your system too!

Titay's. To those who hasn't heard of Titay's, all I could say is: "Shame on you!" They have been in the food business since 1907.  They are the makers of those delicious treats such as rosquillos, otap, galletas, hojaldres, binangkal and cay-cay. Rings a bell?  It should, for all those treats are the one you get to request from someone if they are going to Cebu.

Based in Cebu, this is a family business that has grown and flourished in time. All started as homemade treats and enjoyed by the family; now we get to enjoy them too.

Goureo's is one store that has interesting items worth having.  Located in Cubao, Quezon City, Goureo's offers items that are homemade and has no preservatives. They offer sausages, dips, jams, spice, kitchen items (handcrafted boards), aprons and even interestingly printed shirts. I even got a shirt from them that I liked.  Their paprika is also good!

The other organic exhibitor that day that took my fancy is G-Stuff.  They offer organic food items and beauty items such as lotions, balms, soaps and others.  The foodstuff that they offer is good. The dip that I have tasted was pure delight!  It has the right consistency and the flavor is right.  They even have herb cheeses!

The whole event is filled with so many wonders that it would take more than a day to fully digest things.  Can't wait for the next WOFEX and I would definitely plan my visit to fully enjoy the event!
