Ito ang sinasabing 3-5 days before and after the Ghost Month.  This is to make sure that all the negative energy that is building up before the opening of the Gates and closing are totally dissipated and that positive energies are at flow.*

***

Ano Na Ang Zodiac Mo Ngayon?

Heto anf sinasabi kong 10 na nawala sa history o panahon:  Ophiuchus        Eagle        Swan        Andromeda        Perseus        Orion        The Charioteer        Ship of the Argonauts        Sea Serpent        Wise Centaur.

My Gardening Story

I grew up with plants.

As a kid, I am exposed to cactus and ornamental plants since we lived in an apartment in the metro then.  During summer, I get to see fruit bearing trees and other flowering plants since we always stayed in my mother’s place in Irosin, Sorsogon.  Add to that rice and corn stalks from our field and that of the neighbor’s lot.

As I reached my teen years, that was when I personally grew up with fruit bearing trees in our own lot since we transferred in San Pedro, Laguna.  Mango, guyabano, avocado, guapple, balimbing and the likes were planted in the space available.  Every season we have a fruit in the table; to the point that my parents would either sell or give it out to people because of the abundance at times.  Not only did I grew up with fruit bearing plants but also additional flowering plants, especially orchids.  I was the water boy every afternoon whenever I am home.

As I reached my 30’s, I stopped taking care of the plants since I was busy with work and other stuff.  I know the value of plants but never took the time at that point.

Come nearing 45, my present age, was the time that I’ve looked into gardening again.  A time wherein I was still on the mend from an operation and trying to bounce back into the industry that I’ve placed on hold since I was sick for a time.  I started with tomatoes.  It grew, born some fruits and died.  Reason of death: either it is the normal life cycle of a tomato plant or the shift from indirect sunlight to direct sunlight.  Whatever the cause, I still planted some seeds from vegetables bought from the market and continued growing some more.

March 15, 2020, the start of the lockdown due to the pandemic of the new virus (Corona 19); everybody is advised to stay indoors.  I got stuck in the house, so is my sister and an acquaintance who decided to be lockdown at my place.  That is the turning point of all my gardening moment.

Since there is now an able muscle in the house, what I wanted to do some time back was made possible – clean up the front space of out lot aka allocated sidewalk to be prĂ©cised.  Weeds were pulled out and a new planting space was prepped.  It also came to a point that the acquaintance and I went into a strong discussion on what should be planted on the newly prepped planting space.  He wanted to plant some vegetable that I am not acquainted off, I wanted something else.  He won.  Alugbati or spinach was planted; along with string beans, bitter melon, okra (which I also opposed on planting), sweet potatoes, a chili or two, and a good number of patola now crawling-up the rails.

The inside lot was another thing. Here is a fight of tooth and tails on how things are to be set in order.  I won at this point.  The side back part of the house was cleaned and made my main gardening – seedling area.  I get to have a work table too.  The side front of the lot was cleaned and a proper plant box for the squash was made.  Here, he has set-up an area for what cactus of Papa survived in all the years of neglect.  The plants facing the street (behind the now growing vegetables outside the fence) are all the surviving calachuchi that Mama has planted decades past.  Three new planting areas were made available for me, one near the end of the front fence, another by the side fence and the one surrounding the old plant box by my parents window.  They all now have various vegetables growing – chilis, gabe, singkamas, yellow sweet potato, cucumber, bitter melon or gourds, lemon, and a melon somewhere.  All these from seeds and crop scraps. From scratch so to speak.

Right now I am trying to find space for my new seedlings – tomatoes, chilis (bell peppers, labuyo, haba and ghost chili, lemons and papaya).  If things go well, I will have parsley, spring onions, ginger and kinchay (my oreganos are growing strong by the way).  Next in line for trial growing will be bok choys and the likes.

What do I get out of this besides the resulting vegetables?  For one thing, I started my urban gardening so to speak months prior to the pandemic so the training for patience has started once again.  Two, vegetable planting has been eating me for some time now; from the time that I was sick and could barely move (that was in 2018. I was sick since 2016).  This is part of a dream to start off a production line from produce – a self sustaining food line that will branch out to other endeavors.  It is a dream right?  My dream.  Now is the start of reality.

2020 is the year of the Metal Rat.  A year that foretold a story of much challenges that may caught you red-handed if not ready (based on my yearly tarot reading stint at Il Terrazo Mall).  Such is the case now that a pandemic is in our midst.

Artist Playground has came out with a means to navigate around the need for social distancing and being safe yet still delivering theatrical production of a different medium; the launch of Artist Playground Theatrix.  First up is Cam End Go.  It is a 3-part story telling us of love lost, longing and moving on.  Three short pieces telling a story with three set of actors to boot (power of 3 ba ito?).  What is interesting in this presentation is how it was presented using ZOOM as a medium – something that became the norm in this time of Corona.  True that this might be the case now but it doesn’t mean the end of theater performances as AP- core Roeder Camanag has mentioned in his welcoming talk during the influencers screening night last June 26, 2020.  As a viewer, this is new medium and something worth looking into as means to keep the performing spirit burning and true.

I did mention 3 set of performers and let me say they all have different deliveries to the same line giving each set a different theme and weight that is both intriguing and satisfying depending on the viewers mood.  What do I mean? Different takes for different folks. This is also touched with the PRIDE Month celebration, so enjoy.

What can I say about each set?  Honestly, ANG HIRAP MAGCOMMENTARY WITHOUT COMPARING ONE SET TO THE OTHER!  Lahat may strong points and delivery na noteworthy.  Like scene 2 (Block/Unblock) for example; Set A is a heterosexual approached on the piece but nakakaloka ang laro ni girl! Set B and C are both PRIDE touched yet the delivery of the scene is so different in terms of maturity of the person in a relationship.  So, alin ang pipiliin mo?  At scene 2 palang yan,  may 2 parts pa.

Scene 3, Decline, is truly and honestly a good drama piece.  Both characters in this story arc tells you how longing and moving on works and moves in two opposing direction.  The delivery of Joy Perez (Set A & B) is a woman who is finally giving back all the pain that has bottled up inside her to her ex and as final blow – bye bye!  Ethyl Osorio (Set C) approached is more resigned.  More calm yet with hugot. Nakakaloka sila!  Parehong maganda ang delivery!  Maloloka din kayo sa kilay ni . . ..
Additional notes for Decline:  Karl Mondejar’s character and delivery is so nakakapaniwalang nagaganap.  That palo ng kamay – so true for gys who are frustrated in a situation when with their favorite toy/baby/mahal. Better yet, catch the airing in ZOOM.

Low Batt (scene 1), this is the make or break of things.  Why do I say so?  Again, it all depends on what your mood is prior to watching this airing.  Kung gusto mo ng audio drama ang effect, go for Set A.  Kung gusto mo matawa sa extra, please select Set B.  Kung ang hanap mo ay hindi inaasahang kilig, both visually and auditory, Set C ang iyo.  Eto ang moving on na hindi.  If you are looking for good package (usapang PRIDE) and audio effect that is so catchy yet not irritating then go for Set C.  You are warned. (witchy laugh insert) [Clue:  watch Bench Ortiz as he “play” around and Mikee Lim’s answering acts.  You will feel and chances are react similarly to the way I reacted while watching them (epekto ng sandosenang BL –Taiwanese and Thai films na pinanood nitong quarantine)]

Kudos goes to Paul Jake Paule!  I have seen him work as a director and noticed how he has grown in his craft in terms of actor selection, guide and vision.  He may still need some polishing but he is growing and that is the most important part of it all as a theater practitioner – growth.

Since this is still an exploration, Artist Playground still has room to expand on and literally play.  All it takes is a creative mind, a good pulse and someone who is aware that this is crossing lines of stage and film.  What is noteworthy here is the exploration of theater presentation using this informal platform.  The challenge . . .it is short.  Too short.  Best remedy for this is watching all 3 sets.  You hear the same lines but see different deliveries thus giving you a good dose of the possible new theater.

Hello Stranger Episode 1 Latest Pinoy BL

Hello Stranger

Paulo Quiroz (Seph) ,  Vivoree Esclito (Kookai),  Miguel Almendras (Junjun),
Gillian Vicencio (Crystal),  Meann Espinosa (Kristine Moran)
Directed by Petersen Vargas

Produced and created by ABS CBN Films and Black Sheep PH, in this time of Corona, this latest Pinoy BL story is about to wipe away the blues of lockdown and teledramas absence in the tube.

As far as I can say this is your Jock – Nerd type of story.  Nerd falls for Jock.  Jock reciprocates.  Madlang people gets to know it.  Jock denies or even bashes Nerd.  Nerd cries.  And the ending could be anyone else’s guess.  This is just my assumption on things.  I could be wrong or I could be right but then again, this is a BL story unfolding – a hot item in the market of web entertainment.  So let us see how this series unfolds.

What initially got me to watch Episode 1 was the buzz in Tweeter about a series that is to be aired at 8 something at the night of June 24, 2020.  Dahil na curious at nagsimulang manood din ng mga BL stories from other Asian countries (I simply love the Taiwanese approach more than the much talked Thai series), despite being late I clicked on the link shown on the Facebook post of a friend whom I met during the active years of event coverage. Salamat!

So what can I say about the first episode?

The opening credit was so eye candy that it speaks of being Boys Love.  That aqueous green with various icons, shifting to light golden yellow contrasted with that red talk box {Enemy} meant it to be candid and light but here’s the twist – opening scene :  Mico is crying.  Boom!  Ano ito di ba?  Drama na agad?  Wait!  There is more.

Definitely, who drafted the script of this 1st episode has read and watched a good number of love themed books and films to come up with the best possible scene on how two opposite individuals would meet – by chance. – boses ng mama ni Mico habang may video meeting siya with Xavier that lead to further teasing of Mico. First episode ended with Mico accidentally liking an IG post of Xavier which lead to another bout of teasing so early in the morning.  Kung ako yun .  .  .”Kape muna! Ang aga ng eksena mo Xavier! Windang pa sa tulog ang diwa ko!”

Here is my take on the characters presented . . .

Kookai – the only girl sa Young Padawans group.

Seph – the sporty kuno in the group Young Padawan na mahilig sa online games.  May face.  May charm. . .

Junjun – the 3rd member  of the Young Padawans.  Mr. Friendly ang tawag ko sa kanya. Mukhang mahilig sumayaw at mag Tiktok.  Very supportive sa friends pero ano ang reason behind the support kay Kookai?  Iba ang smile niya given kay Kookai eh.

Prof. Kristina Moran – I LOVE HER! Nakakaloka sya.  If Cupid was female, pasok sa banga ang girl.  Feeling ko may something sa pagkakapaired up nila Mico at Xavier.

Mico – the Nerd with the Looks.  Medyo stiff sa iba but once nakilala nagiging open din unconsciously.  Nagpipigil (bakit?).

Xavier – the Jock.  Senior kina Mico. In a heterosexual relationship (up to when, we shall see).  May image in school as the Top Jock – face, group and girl. May something sa character niya.  Isang malaking SOMETHING.

Strong points of the 1st Episode:

Short and sweet with enough space for future story development and backstory line per character (1).  Good chemistry between Mico and Xavier (2); your typical nerd and jock combo plus the freshie – senior factor.  Winning smile ni Tony Labrusca (3) – walang kokontra!  Catchy music at the credits (4).  It will slowly root into your mind type of music. Ikaw ba hindi?”,”Ni-like nya!”, “Think of it as blind date.”).

Points to work on:

Backstory of Xavier and Mico.  Medyo may mga questions ako about their personal backgrounds based on what were presented in Episode 1.  Yes alam ko too early to realy say things about the characters but may mga bagay na nakaka-intrigue based sa actions-reactions nila.  I know trip ni Xavier tuksuhin si Mico but merong something dun sa end scene.  Need the reason kung bakit ganun ang reaction niya.  Add to that na parang may something ang pagtagpo nila or paired up sa project.

Still on Xavier . . . his smile.  It is so distracting!  Parang toothpaste model (reminds me of someone in my past though); tipong nakatingin na ako lagi sa ngiti niya (my bad!).

Things to look forward to:

Is it a love triangle story arc kina Seph – Kookai – Junjun?  May clues sa episode that lead me to think na possible ito (1).  The drama and kilig scenes nina Xavier and Mico; given na ito syempre but I am really interested kung paano ang emotional play kay Xavier (2).

As a whole, I would say that they had a good start.  Rank 1 in trending topics in Tweeter. 500K + views in less than 24 hours in YT. Clean presentation of story start.

Is presently waiting for Episode 2 and see if the fire still burns.
