La Revolucion Filipina: La Voz de la Historia

**I'm sorry if some words lack the proper stresses or marks that should be present in proper Spanish writing.  This is my first article in English and Spanish respectively.  Hope you enjoy reading the article. (Siento si algunas palabras carecen de las tensiones apropiada o senales que deberian estar presentes een la escritura Espanola apropiada.  Esto es mi primer articulo en ingles y espanol respectivamente.  Esperenza disfruta de leer el articulo.) **

Ballet Philippines opened its Sapphire Season with a ballet that is now considered a classic in Philippine dance history: La Revolucion Filipina. (Ballet Filipinas abrieron su temporada de zafiro con un ballet que ahora es considerado un clasico en la historia de la danza filipina: La Revolucion Filipina)

This is about the history of the Philippine during the Spanish and American occupation in the eyes of Apolinario Mabini, a learned cripple known for his mind during the said period.  This was also in line with the 150th birth anniversary celebration of the said hero.
Agnes Locsin at the center with BP Artistic Director Paul Morales

Named Outstanding Dance Production and winner of Outstanding Choreography for Agnes Locsin at the 2008 Gawad Buhay! Awards, La Revolucion Filipina features original music by Ryan Cayabyab and libretto by Dennis Marasigan.
Choreographer Agnes Locsin was a former artistic director and resident choreographer of Ballet Philippines. She was the Gawad CCP awardee for Dance in 2012.
This fourth restaging of the modern dance masterpiece is led by three members of La Revolucion Filipina’s original cast, Annette Cruz-Mariano, Judell de Guzman-Sicam, and Alden Lugnasin.
                                                                         - From the press release kit of La Revolucion Filipina
This ballet piece speaks of loyalty and love for the Philippines, the challenges that we all face and the pain one feels when he is faced with situations that are out of his hands. Apolinario may be a cripple but he made use of his mind to call the Filipino people and make a stand on the things that were happening then.(Esta pieza de ballet habla de lealtad y amor por Las Filipinas, los desafios que enfrentamos todos y el dolor que uno siente cuando see enfrenta a situaciones que estan fuera de sus manos.  Apolinario puede ser un lisiado, pero hizo uso de su mente para llamar al pueblo Filipino y adoptar una postura sobre las cosas que sucedian entonces.)
Apolinario Mabini (in grey) with Emilio Aguinaldo (in grey & black)

As a former theater artist, seeing this piece re-staged is a delight.  The joy of dance and theater stage is one combination that will trigger one's heart.  Ballet is an art where words are replaced by movements, when the body is your main and only tool to express all that you wish to say to your audience. That joy of defying gravity with all the jumps and leaps that you get to execute.  When you extend your self to the fullest and even beyond, to show what needs to be shown.  When sweat and blood doesn't matter anymore just because of art expression and all would be worth it when you hear the audience says "bravo!" once the curtain and lights closes.

For me, this art medium is the best way to show the mind and challenges of the great hero Apolinario Mabini.  He is a cripple and ballet is a wordless art, both lacking something but both was able to do what they can and must do.

The ballet is full of drama and symbolism that makes it rich and wonderful to watch. (El ballet esta lleno de drama y el symbolismoque hace rico y maravilloso para ver.)

Sea Residence - A New Home in Pasay City by SMDC

What took place last July 25th was a simple but meaningful moment for SMDC.  It was the ceremonial blessing of one of SMDC’s condo/home offering: The Sea Residence - business strip.

Just a stone throw away from SM MOA (1), this SMDC creation is looks simple from the outside but a luxury within. If coming from SM MOA, this is the blue and white semi-high rise structure that you would immediately see at your right going to Makati.  It is exactly at the opposite side of the still being constructed SMDC project named Shell Residences along EDSA.

Invited by Arna Lim of SM, we were able to witness the said blessing ceremony which started with a little set prayer in one of its lobby/reception area.  A whole circuit was made, wherein all the commercial establishments housed in the area opened their doors for the said ceremony.  It was simple. No fanfare.  No concert.  No fireworks.  A simple but meaningful ceremony set for the family, the SM family-management and those who supports them. It was a day that officially made them open to all, residents and passers alike.

Sea Residence occupies a whole business block and set-up in a rectangular manner, making the center of the block free for recreation.  The center space houses 5 pools for everyone’s convenience. With lounging chairs placed in the right spot and number, making it a luxurious spot that residents can enjoy.  This is one residential complex that is shaped rectangular, thus 4 receiving lobby – one on each side of the complex, making it convenient to residents (2). 4 sides, 4 buildings, 4 receiving lobbies – make sense right?

It is no more than 30 steps away from EDSA (3).  You can grab any mode of transportation and go easily to Makati, Manila, Las Pinas and Cavite. An alternate route is also possible to use when going to Manila and/or Makati; take the Macapagal Ave.   Near to churches,  a mall, food places (just a street away from Blue Bay Walk, hotels and event places (4).

It is a one place convenience for residents and nearby office workers for it has its own LBC, a laundry shop, massage place courtesy of Nuat Thai, infirmary, InfiniTea and a nail & waxing place named: Get Polished! (5). That day also was the opening of Get Polished!,  a small but elegantly designed space set to pamper their guest.  You can choose from their different services and nail color line which will satisfy your need.  Located just beside the receiving lobby area/door of Building A, you definitely won’t miss this white and pale violet –near to lavender color themed pamper place.  It is elegance at your fingertips.

The Business Strip is basically the whole ground area of Sea Residence.  It has various space area to suit one's business need and capability. With residents and working people around the area, any sound business can definitely find success in this area.  As of this writing there are still spaces open for businesses who wish to cater to residents and non-residents alike.
Now that is 5 reason that you can look at when looking for a place to reside in.  Sea Residence has it all for you. Something that SM Corporation is known for.

This is one SM project that is indeed worth for all types!

Magic Show + Ryzza Mae = Pure FUN!

Imagine an afternoon of acrobatic feats, magic acts and Ryzza Mae, and what you got is plain pure unadulterated kiddie fun!

Being invited by Wazzup Pilipinas - Ross Del Rosario and LifeisKulayful-Kathy Kenny Ngo, to join them in that event was a treat!  It  was being a kid once more. At age of 39, it was a throwback experience worth having.

Loomband, Magic Show with Ryzza Mae was an event held at the Grand Ballroom of the Solaire Resort in Paranaque last July 12.  The whole event had table booths for those into the loomband craze, chic accesories and face painting; things for the kids and adults too.  People were also treated to a cool and refreshing treat from one of the shows sponsor which was Mogu-mogu. You can enjoy their various cool flavors as you watch the show.  The whole show was in fact for the benefit of abused children; a fund raiser and community awareness drive.

At 4pm, the ballroom was opened and the magic began.

Opening the show with a sone number was Faith Cuneta.  She was then joined onstage by Aling Dora.  The first act: an acrobatic stint from a chubby funny guy.  He may be chubby but man can he do his stints!  It was funny, kid friendly in entertainment- with announcement of kids not to do some of the acts at home and interactive!  He had the audience join him in some of his acts and really did his number well to raise the energy of the house.

Next were some games with prizes coming from the shows sponsors.

Cha-cha time
Then its Ryzza Mae in the house!  No wonder, people adored her for she is indeed one bouncing kid of cuteness and energy!  This child wonder, discovered by GMA - Eat Bulaga, rocked the house with her wit and cute dance moves.  Did she do her dance trademark?  She sure did!  It was cha-cha time!  People were up from their chairs to take photos and videos of this cute and energetic girl as she was onstage.

The not so kiddie act
I did say that there was a magic show with it and it was given by no other than Rico the Magician.  To those who doesn't him, he really made his mark when he joined ABS-CBN's Pinoy's Got Talent, a couple of years back.  I have to give him applause in terms of showmanship and act sequence.  It was smooth and really showed his mastery of his craft.  The only thing that I am not a fan of in his act was the floating-to be speared sequence.  I know he is good but there were kids.  Just my take on it.

Unfortunately, I have to leave early due to a prior commitment but as a whole, it was one enjoyable afternoon.  Full of fun, laughter and treats for all ages, especially the kids.  Kudos to Solaire for hosting this type of event!

Yummy Eats 2014, Food Fair Like No Other

2014 marks the fourth year of Yummy Eats, Yummy magazine's annual food fair.  Last July 12, 75 concessionaires offered mouth-watering mains, sweet treats and refreshing beverages all from eye-catching booths.  During the exciting games ad engaging activities, the participants had the opportunity to win special prizes.  From cooking demos, foodies got to learn quick and easy recipes and practical cooking tips.

Every year,  Yummy magazine gather food concessionaires to join the fair and it grows bigger and yummier! This year's Yummy Eats is bigger than ever! From salty to sweet, savory to spicy, all things that you crave for was served.

This was a classic scenario of Man vs FOOD.  It's 70 food stalls (75 stalls - 5 (non-edible but food related items) vs 1 tummy.  Who will win that day?

From cupcakes to macarons, paella to pesto, coffee to chocolates, cakes to bread creations, dips to sauces, organic products to known processed pack goods, you name it and it was there at the Metro Walk Tent last July 12, 2014.

Out of 75 participating concessionaires, I was able to visit and take samples from 22 stalls.  Not bad for a 2 hours food adventure, right?  I get to see fellow bloggers, a former workmate and people who simply love food.  Trust me when I say it was not an easy feat to go around the place when it was packed with people all set to enjoy what was offered.

Upon entering the venue area, you get to enjoy two photo walls before and after registering at the main lobby.  Once inside the main activity area, you are greeted by the booth of Hunts and the main booth of C2.  Hunts has their own photo booth that you can enjoy, food treats and some of their food items that you can buy and enjoy at your free time or at home with your love ones.  From there, be ready to explore for it was food heaven in all directions!

Let me give you my favorites that day.

1st stop, Rosemarie's Artisan Macaroons.

Its perfectly created macaroons!  Rightly baked  and the flavors real.  Their salted caramel creation is one creation whose main flavors agreed to work together and not against one another.  You can reach them at (02)782 6172, email address is rosemaries.phl@gmail.com.

Bhest Lasagna offers good beef and chicken lasagna.  Its not dry, its cheesy and the seasoning just right for the Filipino taste.  I won't say it is the best in the market when compared to its Italian counterpart but it is delicious to say the less.

Tipsy Beans located in Mandaluyong and Makati City respetively, offers good coffee based drinks.  May it be with liquor or simply your normal coffee blend, it is one refreshing treat.  Their Irish blend is good.  No strong liquor effect but simply smooth and warm sensation left for you to enjoy.  And this is no hot drink.  It is one cold creation coming from Tipsy Beans.

Gourmet Keso offers good kesong puti and delicious carabao milk.  They have your regular kesong puti and a herb version of it.  Gourmet Keso is a dairy social enterprise partnering with Gawad Kalinga to be part of the Nation Building by employing people from the GK communities, partnering with dairy farmers around the country and building a strong local dairy brand.  Looking for a dairy supplier?  You can reach them thru their email address (falconaddison@gmail.com) or their mobile 09153461008/09998893960.

Not a peanut spread lover, well First Harvest will definitely change your mind about your stand about peanuts.  When I talk about peanut spread, I am talking of peanuts 100% and not 80% peanuts and 20% oil.  This is pure peanut heaven!  Its thick and smooth!  No preservatives added.  Simply what nature has given in a more spreadable texture.  Try it!

Looking for good and affordable cream cheese?  Look no further for American Heritage is already in the market.  Its affordable cream cheese that you can use in your meal or as a spread.  It may not be the top of the line when you ask certified chefs but it sure is something that you can be proud to use and serve to friends and guest a like.  I know for I use this on some of my food creations.

My top 3 stalls that day were Sweet Ideas, Lotus Pod and Choclery.  Here is why.

Sweet Ideas offers your regular cakes and more.  They offer one cake creation that is not of the standard flavor, Caviar Cakes!  Its cheesecake with two types of caviar toppings!  Its different indeed but still tasty! You can order for this unusually good creation thru 0927 9359494.

Lotus Pod is one group that supports organic produce 100%!  They are one organic store that offers not only organic goods but also promotes organic breeding.  Let us face it, nothing beats produce that is chemical free and definitely healthy!

For a non-chocolate fan, Choclery sure did change my mind about chocolates.  They have flavors that are well thought of and not simply created because it sounds nice.  Like what I said, I am not a chocolate fan but their Manchego with dark chocolate and Blue Cheese in milk chocolate is a winner for me!  That balance of cheese and chocolate = Perfection!  You can choose from their different offerings and have a customized box that would simply spell who you are and definitely put a spell on you.  Drop them a call thru their mobile number of 0917 536 6024 or email them at choclery@gmail.com. You won't be disappointed.  They were able to win my vote that day.

                                                     *                              *                           *

The whole experience was indeed a delight!  They have won versus my tummy but my tummy was happy that makes it a winner too!   Its Yummy Eats 4th year and it was a blast! I am looking forward to the years  to come and the different treats to enjoy.

Coffee Con at Eastwood Mall, My DOTD!

As a coffee drinker and lover myself, being invited to attend the 1st Coffee Convention by Megaworld Lifestyle Mall at the Eastwood Mall was a treat indeed!

Es la experiencia muy agradable!

This was a two-site event that took place at the Eastwood Mall and the Venetian Place in McKinley Hills, Taguig City.  The whole week was filled with various activities and vendors that share their love for coffee.  I myself was excited when I found various coffee vendors that support homegrown coffee growers.  I was at the Eastwood Mall event.

This was one event that made me drink and taste 5 different types and 7 cups of coffee in the span of 2 hours!  Talk about my love for this smooth, silky creation given by God to mankind.

Let me give highlights to some of the offerings that day.

The Philippine Barista and Coffee Academy demonstrated how coffee should be prepared and be visually enjoyed.  When they need a volunteer to enjoy the coffee after presentation, I immediately raised my hand.  It's coffee! It's free too!  Because of this, I was in the spotlight for a few minutes because I got asked on my take of the coffee that I was enjoying.  My 1st cup.  Their office is in San Juan City.

Raw cevit beans

18 Days is one company that offers cevit coffee at a reasonable price.  To those who is not aware what cevit coffee is, it is the most expensive coffe there is for it is what is also known as alamid coffee.  Their office is based in Las Pinas City and a prime supporter and educator for homegrown coffee beans.  Why 18 days?  They believe and encourage people to consume their freshly ground coffee beans within 18 days to have that real coffee flavor.  Not much of a coffee drinker but wishes to try their offerings? No problem.  You can have their offerings in small amounts too.  You can reach them through their number +632 836 02 16 and/or through online at botecentral09@gmail.com or www.botecentral.net.  They do deliver too!  With them, I smelled the difference between their barako and civet.  From them I got my 2nd, 3rd and 4th cup.

Silca Coffee is another stall offering homegrown  coffee beans.  Based in Cavite, they have created coffee mixtures suited for the different personalitites of coffee lovers.  Would one type be enough?  Could be or you could get all their offerings and decide which would be your personal favorite.  Their coffee brand, Kickstart Coffee!  When they need another volunteer to take their challenge, I immediately raised my hand.  This is coffee!  Smelling the bean is way different from the actual brew!  You need to fully trust your nose in this test.  Their challenge, name all three brew right and you get a prize.  I got one right only.  Still, I won a prize!  A bag of their barako blend.  You can reach them through online: www.silcacoffee.com and/or www.mykickstartcoffee.com.  You could also get their blends at  leading supermarkets such as Rustan's.  My 5th, 6th and 7th cup.

Palmer and Bennet gives you a taste of coffee from Asia; namely Vietnam.  Their coffee line; Hello 5 Coffee.  Its coffee blend creation based on the element that you are born with.  Following the elemental rule of Taoism, they have a blend for those born in the wood, fire, water, earth and metal element.  They presented their brew in the standard Vietnam way, with condensed milk.  Did I try their drink?  Even if I would like to, it would be a killer to my system.  I already have 7 cups of pure blends in less than 2 hours.  They also have chocolates for those choco-lovers named Marou Bars.

If you are a coffee lover that wishes to learn and know more about it, then you have The Coffee Academy and Philippine Barista and Coffee Academy. They both offer classes that you can enroll in, depending on your schedule and like.  The difference, The Coffee Academy is connected with Cravingsi and The Coffee Beanery.  They are a group of company that offers pastries (Cravings), coffee brew at its best (The Coffee Beanery) and coffee preparation classes tied with an Australian company for successful trainess for their OJT (The Coffee Academy).  Its a company that gives a complete package for those coffe enthusisast to be a coffee expert.  You can reach them through their local number: 02 426 4836, their email address: coffeeacademymanila@gmail.com or at their office in Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.  You should try their mint cookie.  Its a wonder in scent and taste!

Vincent Francisco Navvarro and his art
After being showed around various vendors of coffee growers, coffee machine makers and perfect coffee food companion, we were introduced to Vincent Francisco Navarro.  He is a coffee lover, a strong supporter of local coffee grower and the first in his chosen medium - dried coffee granules art!  He shared his story and his love for his chosen medium in the visual art.  Part of the night's activity is the chance to do our own coffe granule art using patterns provided with us.  It was such fun!  I never even realized that rain was pouring outside the mall.
While doing coffee art

Sealling the night were prizes given out to lucky coffee con media attendees coming from Kenwood and food treats coming from The French Baker. It was an event made for coffee-lovers indeed!
