Just Thai Restaurant . . .What it Spells for Me.

Last May 8, 2014, I was invited to join a group and give my thoughts about the quality of food of a Certain restaurant in Alabang. The first time I saw this restaurant from the outside, a year back, I told myself "I will try your food someday.". Why did I said that? They are not for your regular offering local dishes, but something that is authentic Called from a place I wish to go too someday. . . Thailand.

From the outside, the place is quite quaint. It's not big nor too small for that matter. It has the right size for a quiet dinner for two or even a group of 10 and an intimate atmosphere for a group of 30 people. Mirrors strategically placed to Create a more spacious room. The wall hangings were big but Because of the huge mirror and high ceilings, it creates a balance and maintained that intimate feeling.

The Food:
We started with 2 types of soup. A classic chicken soup (Gai Kuai Tiao) and one with coconut milk (Tom Kha Gai) and spring rolls (Poh Piah Tod) Both were satisfying soup. Since all dishes were requested to be mildly spicy due to my companions, I have to request for a spice plate to adjust the level of heat and trust me when i say it made all the difference. The soup became more complex and richer in flavor When compared with the mildly spicy version of it. The spring roll was with the right level of crunch and saltiness (Praise to the chef who made the filling / mixture!)

Since I am allergic to crustaceans, tasting my food was a bit limited but not hindered. The rice was good with beef strips. The squid was of the right texture and flavor. The fish (Pla Rad Prik) was fab! Crunchy fillets + a rich dipping sauce = a great dish! Of course, how can one forget a classic Thai dishes. . . Phad Thai! The noodles were cooked rightly. Flavor is as expected of a Phad Thai. Does it stand out? In a way yes. On its own, it can stand on one leg. When matched with other dishes in the menu, it stands proud and declares itself as an authentic Phad Thai.

Being a bit adventurous, I tried THEIR Tamarind Ice Tea. . . and it was mind blowing! It was like drinking your regular Tamarind candy! The tanginess was just right, not over powering. This is one drink that will not only keep you awake but helps cleans the palate for more flavors to enjoy.

Capping the night was two classic Thai desserts. . . Mango and sticky rice with coconut sauce and one that is very similar to our own but maja wrap in leaves and is delicate and smoother in texture. Both unique in flavor and texture. Some would say that the mango and sticky rice is similar to our very own pizza but with the coconut sauce. . . Way it becomes different. The coconut sauce adds flavor and binds the flavor of the mango and rice together. The other dessert is worth coming back. . . Nor twice not only one but all the time. Eat it after a meal. Eat it on its own. Either way, it is a winner!

The whole experience was worth repeating. The food, place and company spelled the night's success. What's the name of the place? Just Thai Restaurant. A restaurant worth dining and the food and worth every peso Spent. It was truly an experience worthy of being above, under and beyond the rainbow.
