Located along Kamagong St. in Makati City, Frangos is what
you would say a chicken house. Specializing in grilled chicken Portuguese
style, what started as a small business in Legaspi Market is now an in-thing in
the food business in Makati City.
Situated near a family KTV establishment, Frangos
is one restaurant that you will definitely not miss. A big signage is up front showing the name
and there is also the logo underneath; two signs telling you that they are
there and that you are welcome to come it.
The inside has a casual appeal with spots of red all through-out the
place. The staffs are nice and attentive
enough to your needs.
They have a good set of starters that is enough to tickle
your palate and serve as a match to the house specialty which is roasted
chicken Portuguese-style. The Chorico Sausage and Roasted Garlic
Crostinis is a delight to start your meal.
The chorico is your Portuguese
sausage that has the expected spice flavor from that country. The garlic is cooked to be super tender that
when combined with the sausage and the crostinni, there is an added texture and
flavor dimension.
Chorico Quesadilla |
Roasted Pumpkin Hummus |
The Chorico Quiejo
Quesadilla is a light starter. What
I like with this is the way they handled the bread. It has the right toast that goes well with
the sausage and cheese. The Roasted Pumpkin Hummus is a delight on
its own! The combination of the roasted
pumpkin and the garbanzos is a good
flavor marriage! The only challenge I
had with this is the lack of oil when applied to the pita bread that comes with
it. The solution: ask for their organic butter. The butter when applied to the bread will
give you that needed moisture when combined with the hummus.
Since it is a chicken place, it is but right to expect some
buffalo wings type of offering – it is called Frango’s Wings. It is not
that hot and the wings are soft making the meat nearly slide off the bones.
Perfect to match with a glass of beer, which is available, or a glass of red
wine.
One wonderful thing in the menu is not really a main
offering but a technically a side dish – their mango salsa is right in the
palate! The mango’s sweetness is right and not overpowering. The onions sharp flavor is controlled by the
mango. Use this is nearly all your
dishes and you will truly enjoy each dish!
The chicken can be ordered in 3 different sizes, ¼, ½ or
whole. It is all up to you. Using a rotisserie and butterflied, you can
expect that the meat is cooked all throughout.
It is lightly flavored that some may find it near bland but the reason
behind this is to match with the 3 types of dipping sauce made available when
served. From their herb dip to spicy,
they have something that would satisfy your palate.
They also have a steak offering for those who want something
else besides chicken. It is soft and
also flavored the way Portuguese does their meat. Consistency on the marinating is the key to
make this perfect and ensure that the wine used truly seeps into every fiber of
the meat since alcohol is normally removed when cooked.
Sea Salt Caramel |
Strawberry Cheesecake |
The dessert is a pure heavenly delight! The flavors are there and kept true. We tried two flavors that day and both were
perfect palate cleansers. The Strawberry Shortcake is perfectly balanced in terms of sweetness and tartness. No artificial flavor present. The bits of cheesecake adds texture and flavor dimension. The Sea Salt Caramel is perfect also! That balance of saltiness and caramel is so
good that the serving is just right for an individual.
Frango’s is a good place to casually dine with friends and
family. The price and the offerings are
just right in your alley. They have
split service time, 11:00am – 2:00pm and 6:00pm – closing, to cater to those
who would like to have lunch or dinner at their place. Come and visit their place and enjoy
Portuguese cooking in the heart of Makati City.
