A Moment with Mayor Hubbert C.A. Dolor of Puerto Galera

Not everybody would have the same experience that I had when visiting a place for the first time.  My first trip to Puerto Galera was also my first courtesy call to the mayor of the said place.  Beat that!

As an invited blogger, I was tasked to note all the things that will come about with the said trip but what makes this trip different was when I, along with other bloggers, went for a courtesy call with the mayor of Puerto Galera.  It was a visit like no other!

What makes this courtesy call special is the attitude of the mayor.  To a point, I can say that we caught him off guard when we came in but he was still cordial and graceful to welcome us and throw his schedule of the wheel so to speak. Meeting Mayor Hubbert Christopher Atienza Dolor, MD, MPA is a man of his word and action.  A person who was educated in the seminary, has a degree in medicine and a military man to boot, he is a person who matches his words with his actions and acts on things that perfectly matches his words and conviction.  He is a calm man that knows when to wave his stick, figuratively speaking.

When asked about his term, Mayor Hubbert Dolor pointed out the things that he has made for the place and the challenges that he is still facing.  He is honest to say things about his challenges and the actions he is taking to overcome those challenges.  Handling a place that is known for its natural beauty and tagged as one of the most pristine beaches in the world, challenge comes in the form of development versus maintenance of the place.  Another challenge that he has is the education of the people in terms of the service that they need to give to ensure that people are to return and continually enjoy the beauty of the place.

Being a person of action and words, Mayor Hubbert Dolor aims to bring the people and the place of Puerto Galera  ready for the Asian Integration and Asian Conference which they will be hosting next year.  When asked what is his priority for his constituents, his response were the health - especially of the Mangyan Tribe, the security of all - locals and visitors alike, and the maintenance of the beauty of the place.  If given the opportunity, after his term, he would like to serve the tourism industry or practice his other profession, as a doctor.  Being a father of a beautiful girl, Mayor Dolor knows how important it is to balance his family needs and his constituents.

A general thought on the experience, it is truly great to meet a person of authority who talks not for publicity sake but about his heart and aims for his people.  I hope we could have more individuals like Mayor Hubbert Christopher Atienza Dolor.

Mabuhay po kayo Mayor Dolor at ang Puerto Galera!
