Food Review: Sugar + Heart = Love Desserts!

When I heard of a dessert buffet in Q.C., I know, I just have to try it out.  So, one sunny afternoon, I decided to find this place which is located along Banawe Ave.  Braving the heat, the dust and the fear of being lost, from Quezon Avenue I started my walk in search of this dessert place amply named Love Desserts.

After a long walk and several sticks later, I finally arrived at the place.

Capable of seating 50 customers at a time, the place may not be that spacious but it is still well ventilated and has ample space per table area.  Normally packed with students during the early hours, the crowd slowly shifts to the family type as it goes to late afternoon.  As night comes in, it becomes a mix of family, friends and couples.

From cakes to baked bars, from ice creams to halo-halo, and cookies to crepes, Love Desserts  has a lot to offer.  To taste all of their offerings, a day is not enough (that is why I had to make a 2nd visit to complete the experience).  No wonder, some people goes there on a near daily basis.

There is no regular baked sweet offerings for they rotate what they have.  The only thing that they have on a regular basis are the crepes and ice creams and their line of  non-sweet items to help you in your sweet adventure.  Their non-sweet items are their filipino tacos, green mangoes and shrimp paste, chili sticks, rice porridge and home-brew coffee.  All set to help cut that sugar you are in-taking and enjoy the experience.

I love the nachos!  The onion flavor cuts all the sweetness that you may have taken prior to having this.  Add the fact that they make use of fried wanton wrappers as chips and not the normal corn nacho shell.  They have two types of sauces, the tomato sauce and the cheese sauce.  I would advise you to mix the two to truly enjoy the nachos.  The rice porridge is also worth your time.  Not because it has meat but the broth used is full of flavors!  The heat from the chili sticks is a wonder and a must as you continue your sweet adventure.

Since they offer a wide range of sweets, it would be a challenge to try all. One thing that I noticed is the wide chocolate based or flavor treats that is offered on a daily basis; just to prove that we do have a big chocolate consumer market in the city.  They have brownies, choco-leche, black and whites, choco-rolls, choco chips cookies and eclairs ( it has a chocolate glaze -gotcha!).  They also have non-chocolate treats such as egg pies, strawberry gelatin, BIG cream puffs, blue berry gelatin, yema bars, rainbow cake and crepes - apple, peaches, bananas and berries.

The must thing that you shouldn't miss when you visit this place is their crepe.  It is YUMMY!  The crepe is off the right thickness and the fillings are of the right sweetness too.  You may even have it with a scope of ice cream on top or just its regular serving of syrup/glaze to match your desired filling.  They even design your plate using candy colored chocolates and syrup. (Nice presentation! *clap*clap*clap*)

There are two offerings that reminded me of home treats that my mama used to make, the coconut macaroons and the banana bread.  The taste and texture is so similar to what my mama makes!  A comforting treat that I haven't had for a time for mama has stopped baking due to old age.  It was quite a delightful surprise for me to encounter such similar taste in commercial place. (photos below)

For Php 199.00, you can enjoy their sweet offerings for two hours and even match it with ice tea, iced milk tea or the available drink shake (fruit or chocolate - it is up to you).  I prefer coffee (and they do have a nice coffee brew).  For this value, it is worth the time and taste to visit the place.  If you have a sweet tooth, then this is heaven for you! If you don't have a sweet tooth, then this would be a treat!  There is even something for those of the elderly or those who are conscious with their sugar intake.  Coming from a person whose family has a diabetic case, going to this place may be the death of me but I survived and enjoyed my moment with Love Desserts!  Everything is well-thought and there is definitely something for someone.

Love Desserts has two locations right now, the original store is the one along Banawe Avenue and they have a newly opened store along Pearl Drive Commerce Center in Fairview.  Both locations are filled with sweets and staffed with nice, cordial people.  If you are looking for a place to satisfy your sweet tooth, then this is the place to be.

Word of caution:  Be ready for a sugar overload!
