As a foodie, I get to encounter the same product all over
again with no clear bite as to who edges who in that food category but every
now and then there would be a vendor who will deliver what you expected and
more. Such was my experience with Sunflower
Kitchen, Patchi and Dash Cakes and Bloom Cakes; they all gave you
flavors that is true to the products name and even more.
The very first thing that you would notice with their
product is the container that held the cake.
It is a semi-brass colored can similar to that of an ice cream brand; unique
already in that case. The presentation
can is actually a bake able tin, so there is no need to be an engineer to
figure out how a round cake gets fitted in it without any damage in form and
shape. Next would be the design of the
cake. At the center of the cake is a
rose candy that greets you with a strong “Hi!” because of the way it stands out
or blend (such is the case of the black rose) from its dark background. With three colors to choose from – red, white
and black, it is up to you pick one based on your mood and intent of getting one.
Now for the taste description of the cake and why it made
its note to my tongue. Please note that
I am not a chocolate fanatic and to appreciate one means there is something
really palate worthy to it.
The cake is moist all through-out. No dryness, everything was moist in all
levels – from top to base. Two things
come to mind, the baking technique and the reason for that other flavor that
tried to hide in the cake but still makes its presence felt – the wine. Yes, there is wine in the cake. It is a sweet red wine coming from the new
wine making market and not your classic red’s.
The amount of the wine is quite controlled that you feel its “bite” but
not the kick.
The ganache used to top the chocolate cake is made up of two
types of chocolates namely dark and semi-sweet.
What made this noteworthy is the way you taste the two chocolate types
despite its clean blending. With that,
the alcohol’s touch in the cake gets to be noted in the process thus making
your chocolate eating a classic – chocolate and liquor working together.
This is a partnership that resulted to something worthy in
the market. From cakes to small treats
such as crinkles, Patchi and Dash Cakes
has something that may capture your fancy.
I have tasted two of their creations that has high notes and something that may to your liking. Their Banana Cake has the taste of true and ripe bananas to your liking. Top with a light banana sauce and some chocolate bits and chips made this a perfect dessert but more as a coffee partner. The cake is springy enough and moist with the banana sauce helping in maintaining the moistness of the cake also. The chocolate bits gave it added taste character making it acceptable to non-fruit cake based liker’s and chocolate fans alike.
Their Dark Chocolate Cake is true to its name and nature. It is moist and the flavor real that it is not bitter but quite enjoyable to eat. This one truly made a stand to be either a dessert or a personal treat to oneself. The sweetness level is just right and the ganache of the right consistency.
Everything that they have is worthy of your palate! Their items are all in snack packs making it
the perfect buddy in your bag everyday or during your trips. They have raisin
cookies, baked pastillas, salted egg potato chips and my true love nougat bars.
With the in-flock of salted egg potato chips in the market, Sunflower Kitchen remained true to what
the name of the product should be and that is potato chips with true salted egg
flavor and not just a sprinkle of that ingredient. You taste the salted egg in every chip making
every piece delectable.
Nougat is love! For those who grew up during the 80’s, do
you still remember that small white wrapped candy that is a bit chewy? Do you remember the flavor of it? Yes, I am talking about the nougat candy of
old and that is how this brownie looking baked goodie tasted. Real nougat goodness that is chewy and moist. On the outside, one may think of it as a brownie
with the nuts topping it but once you get to have a piece, you taste simply nougat
through and through. The sweetness is
not strong making this a snack that you would enjoy. You may not realize it but you may have
finished the box already. That is how
good this bake goodie is!
